It is a busy term so here are the urgent sports notices. Please ensure boys are reading the daily notices and listening in assembly so they don’t miss out on any opportunities.
If you have ever wanted to be the leader of a rowing crew, now is your chance. We need a novice (hasn’t competed at Maadi Cup before) coxswain for a Nelson College Rowing Crew. No experience is necessary, just a will to learn and train hard. Please see Alethea in the Sports Office asap!
All boys should now be registered. If you want to play and have not put your name down, please see Alethea in the Sports Office today! Junior boys will be put into teams this week and games start next week. Trainings will be at lunch times. More information will be sent out once the teams are sorted.
All boys should now be registered. If you want to play and are not yet in a team, please see Mr Franklin in the PE Office.
Training for the 2019 Athletics season starts on Monday, February 11 at 3:25pm on the Front Field. Students interested in taking part in any athletics discipline – throws, jumps, sprints, and distance running – are encouraged to come out. We will train you for the upcoming Nelson College, Tasman, South Island Secondary Schools Meets. It is also good development for other sports. Training will be held Mondays and Thursdays at 3:25pm. For more information, contact Nelson College Athletics Coach Greg Lautenslager – firstname.lastname@example.org, ph. 923-2321 or 027 343-5521.
Event date is March 5th. Entries close Feb 22nd. We will be running heats in the popular events during the week prior to the event to ensure we can cater for everyone. You may enter up to 5 events and you will gain points towards the age group championship. Your 5 events may be 3 track & 2 field, or 2 track & 3 field. Please note the 80m is for seniors only. Run this and the 100m to be in consideration for the Majoribanks Shield.
Entry forms are upstairs in the gym. You must compete in at least 3 events to have the whole day out of class.
If you place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an event you will be invited to compete at the Tasman Secondary Schools event on March 13th.
NB: This is a separate event from House Athletics.
Trials are underway for all grades. If you have not been to these, or have not put your name down, please see Mr Anderson in the PE Office this week.
If you play hockey, or want to play hockey, please register with Alethea in the Sports Office. This is for ALL hockey players, regardless of whether you play for College or Club. There is a new College competition starting and we would like to enter teams into this. It will not affect your Club team. See Alethea for more details
Senior A&B trials are on this Friday – February 15th
Please register your name with Alethea in the Sports Office, so we can plan for numbers. All other trials will take place later in the term.
- South Island Mt Biking Champs – this is now in March and is in Methven. Please register with Alethea in the Sports Office so plans can be made for travel and accommodation. Your entry must be done through the school
- Nelson College Champs – new event. Will be held mid March and the top riders for this will go onto Tasman Champs. With only being allowed a limited number of entrants to Tasman Champs and having 10 times as many riders in school, we are introducing this event as a fair way to assess riders for Tasman Champs, as well as having Champions in each grade for Nelson College. Registrations for this will be in a couple of weeks
- Tasman Secondary School Champs – you must have competed in the Nelson College Champs and placed high enough to be entered into the Tasman Champs.
