New Zealand Rugby History – 150 Years On

Thursday 14th May marked a special day in New Zealand’s rugby history. 150 years ago the first game of rugby was played between Nelson College and the Nelson Rugby Football Club at the Botanical Gardens.

Nelson College and Nelson College Old Boys’ Association have put this collection of photos together. They have also worked collaboratively with the Nelson Provincial Museum and the Nelson Rugby Football Club to celebrate this occasion. Take a look at the story through pictures.

Here’s a great tribute to Rugby 150 put together by the Nelson City Council, including projection of images on the Nelson College building.

We have limited edition Rugby 150 merchandise available to purchase for a limited time. Orders close on May 26th, so get in quick. For every purchase made a donation is given to Nelson College hardship in Sport. If you want to increase your donation amount, you can do this while ordering any product.
