Kia ora koutou katoa,

Please be aware that the Prime Minister has announced that as a country we are moving to a Level Three response to Covid 19 immediately, and then to Level Four in 48 hours.

This means that the school will be closed from tomorrow for all but the sons of emergency workers and then closed for all as at Thursday morning.

At this stage we are planning to offer distance learning from Thursday morning onwards, in line with the initial statement made by the Prime Minster. It has been suggested that the school will be closed for at least 4 weeks, which may include the holidays. This will all be clarified in due course.

We will be in contact with your son(s) about the distance learning component as more details are released by the Ministry of Education. I suspect this particular area will evolve quite a lot before it settles. Our staff will spend this next 48 hours establishing a programme of distance learning. It will mean considering which aspects of their courses are best suited to this type of learning and what current work can be finished off. In the junior school, there is a range of more generic programmes which will help to keep learning going.

A skeleton staff will be here tomorrow and Wednesday to accommodate the needs of any emergency worker’s children; they should report to the Hall on arrival.

Please keep checking our website for updated information. The Ministries of Health and Education also have very useful information online.

We have managed extraordinarily well as a face of calm and purpose already.

Your vital role in supporting your son(s) through extraordinary times, continues to be very important.

Mauri ora,

Tim Tucker
Acting Headmaster
