Nelson College ensures that boarding students start with a positive introduction to college and boarding life from the very beginning.
In each of the Boarding Houses the Year 9 students are “buddied” up with a Year 13 student who becomes a guide and mentor. The Houses provide a safe and nurturing environment within which boys are supported to realise their academic and social potential.
Excerpt from the April 2009 Education Review Office Report:
“The boarding houses are overseen by a director of boarding, and staffed by housemasters, supervisors, and school staff who work closely with the college to provide holistic care for each boy. Each Hostel is administered in a way that promotes warm, safe and supportive environment well-maintained, with a good standard of accommodation and ongoing upgrades to meet the needs of the boarders. Nelson College boarding is supportive of open and regular communication with parents, students and management and is responsive to boys’ diverse cultures, including international students. Nelson College boarding is managed using a model that seeks students’ and parents’ views, encourages leadership and has clear routines and boundaries for student conduct.
A recent survey indicated parents were generally satisfied with their sons’ accommodation and care provided.”
